What is the content of PPS Practioner training?
Practical Problem Solving (PPS) provides structure and is a fact-based method for eliminating the root cause of a problem. By quantifying a vague and complex problem (the problem gap) and dividing it into manageable sub-problems, you set better priorities.
Based on facts, you understand the (sub)problem and the chain of cause and effect is visualized. Based on this knowledge, you determine the measures to be taken to prevent a recurrence of the problem for the future. These measures are only really effective when the cause no longer occurs. That is the hard evidence and gives tangible results.
We use the A3 format to communicate with the experts, the client and stakeholders. The successive versions of the A3 reflect the course of the research/project. The training consists of theory, exercise and practical sessions in which you work on your own problem. We conclude the program with an examination and final presentation with the clients.
The success of the approach is a beautiful interplay of the following elements (see picture):

Tata has been working with this approach for more than 10 years, the method is continuously proving itself:
- Breaking through the 'putting out fires' and 'trial & error'
- Effectively bringing together the various experts and disciplines
- Solving persistent, recurring problems and gaining insight into hidden causes
- Creating focus in the organization to successfully complete problem-solving projects on time
The Following topics are covered
- PPS principles, visualization and the A3 format
- Root Cause Analysis Tools: Event Mapping, Problem Analysis and Human Factor Analysis
- Roles & responsibilities, PPS in the organization
- Facilitator skills
- Measures & Decision-Making Analysis
In the A3 review sessions the participants support each other in their practical assignment (the problem that is worked on during the training) and are supervised in this by experienced PPS trainers/facilitators. The training is given by experienced experts and trainers from Tata and
